One of the best things about chili is the seasoning. You can buy chili seasoning from the store, but it’s just as easy (and more delicious) to make your own.

What goes into homemade chili seasonings?

First, let’s take a look at what goes into chili seasoning. Typically, chili seasoning contains ground cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, and cayenne pepper. These spices give chili its characteristic flavor and heat. If you’re interested in making your own chili seasoning, start by gathering these spices. You can find them all at the grocery store or online.

Once you have the spices gathered, it’s easy to make your own chili seasoning. Simply combine equal parts of each spice and mix well. Store the seasoning in an airtight container such as a ziplock bag, until ready to use.

One of the biggest benefits of making your own chili seasoning is that you can customize it to your own taste. If you like things spicy, you can add a bit more cayenne pepper or some red pepper flakes. If you prefer a milder chili, you can adjust the spices accordingly. You can also make the seasoning more or less salty depending on your preference.

How can I modify chili seasonings?

  • If you want a bigger kick added to your seasoning, include ½ teaspoon of crushed red pepper in your mix.
  • Want a sweeter touch? Add a teaspoon of sugar.
  • Want a stronger or bolder flavor? Add an extra Tablespoon of chili powder.
  • You’ll want to taste this and adjust the seasonings to your preferences. Everyone likes it just a little differently, so start from here and if you like it, awesome, if not, tweak it just how you like it.
  • Be sure to smash up any clumps in your seasoning so it’s nice and smooth.

Another benefit of making your own chili seasoning is that it’s cheaper than buying it from the store. When you make it yourself, you know exactly what goes into it and there are no hidden ingredients. This is especially important if you have food allergies or sensitivities.

Finally, homemade chili seasoning tastes better than store-bought seasoning. It’s fresh and has a more complex flavor than commercially prepared seasonings.

So, why not give it a try? Make your own chili seasoning and see for yourself how much better it is than the store-bought stuff. Use it to make your favorite chili recipe, or try using it in other dishes too. It’s great on chicken, fish, and pork, and it’s also terrific on roasted vegetables. Happy cooking.

You can also use chili seasoning as a coating for candy. Try rolling your favorite chocolate or hard candy in it for a fun and spicy treat.
